Bilirubin Level difference in newborn Vs Adults |
There is a difference between level of bilirubin in newborn
and adults. Not all the newborns have high bilirubin level at the time of birth
but generally it has been seen that newborns either full term or preterm
are more likely to have high bilirubin level in their blood.
So, newborns do commonly have high bilirubin as compare
to adults. The reason is that the newborns’ livers are not fully matured and
have no full capacity to process the bilirubin and to excrete out it from the
body.
There is also a slight difference between level of bilirubin in full-term
healthy newborn and preterm new born. The livers of Full-Term
healthily babies are bit more mature as compare to the livers of preterm newborn.
Therefore, preterm newborn have more chances of developing high bilirubin in their
blood as compare to full-term healthy newborn due to immaturity of their livers
and other conditions associated with premature birth
